Haven’t heard about this? What is radon and why should we care?

Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas that forms naturally from the break of uranium in soil and rock (Government of Canada, 2023). It can seep into homes through cracks in the foundation, basement floors, gaps around pipes. Long-term exposure to high level of radon is a serious health risk and is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking.

Health Canada recommends that all homes be tested for radon, especially during the winter months when windows and doors are closed most of the time.
