STEM for Homeschoolers

November 8th, 2:00pm to 3:30pm

Join us for a weekly program for Homeschoolers and Unschoolers where we explore a different STEM topic every week! 

Ages 5-10 years (it is recommended that children younger than 7 have a caregiver or older sibling to assist them with the activities)

Fridays Septemeber 20 - November 8, 2:00-3:30 p.m. (8 weeks)

Location: Optimist Room

Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday August 13.

Topics (subject to change based on material availibility):

Week 1: Robots! Learn to program Dot and Dash, Ozobot, and other neat robots!

Week 2: Codes and Ciphers: learn about ways messages have been coded and decoded throughout history, and learn about some codes that have never been broken! We`ll also take a quick look at computer coding.

Week 3: Arctic Animals: learn about how arctic animals survive in their extreme environments, and do some cool and messy experimenting!

Week 4: Circuits: we`re going to play with circuitry and learn how it works.

Week 5: Simple Machines: we`ll learn about simple machines with LEGO®!

Week 6: Candy Science! Explore chemical reactions and colour science with candy.

Week 7: Engineering and Balance: we'll explore balance and how it works and then learn about great civil engineering failures and successes, and build towers or bridges using our balancing and engineering knowledge.

Week 8: Density: explore liquid density with a density tower and make a lava lamp you can take home!
