Home Alone Program

Designed by the Canadian Safety Council, this program helps prepare 9 – 11 year olds for being home alone during short periods of time.  Participants will learn basic first aid and safety procedures, as well as to recognize hazards, and when and how to use 911.  Offered in partnership with St. John Ambulance.

Paws 4 Stories

Paws 4 Stories is an awesome program for beginning and struggling readers who like dogs!  It’s an exciting opportunity to read aloud to a dog and make a friend! Dogs and their owners are trained and generously provided by St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program. Many children find that reading aloud to a trained dog is much less stressful than reading to a person, which helps encourage them and allow them to enjoy reading!

Documentary Film Festival: Being Canadian

This documentary chronicles the real-life quest of Robert Cohen, a proud Canadian, who left his hometown of Calgary and moved to the U.S. to start a career as a TV comedy writer. He started noticing how people outside Canada knew very little about his beloved homeland. After decades of ignorance, insults, and indifference, he decides to do something about it. Rob sets off on an epic personal quest, driving across Canada from East to West, to confirm the country he's been fighting for is still what he remembers.

Dogs and their owners are trained and generously provided by St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Program. Teen Movie Days - Love, Simon

Up first for our winter break movie screenings is Love, Simon, a charming movie about Simon Spier, a high school boy who has one huge secret - he's gay. When his secret and his email relationship with an anonymous closeted boy at his school is threatened, Simon must do some balancing with his friends and family, and finally come to terms with his identity. 

Love, Simon is based on the YA book Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. Borrow it from the library today!

Our second winter break movie screening is Ready Player One, a sci-fi adventure movie based on the YA book of the same name by Ernest Cline. The year is 2045.
