Avoid fines

As a courtesy, APL offers email and telephone notification to members for materials coming due. You will receive an email reminder from circulation@library.aurora.on.ca, or an automated telephone call, for items due two to three (2-3) days in advance of their due date. See Troubleshooting Tips if you are not receiving your reminder emails. However, members are still responsible for returning materials on the due date shown on the checkout slip.


To avoid overdue fines, most material can be renewed up to 5 times, if there are no requests on the item, in-person, by phone, or online through our catalog or app. Please renew on or before the due date to avoid fines.


For items that cannot be renewed, there are return bins inside the library, outside the parking lot entrance doors, or at the Aurora GO station (beside the bike racks). Please note: Items returned to the GO station may show on your account for a few days, but are backdated to the date of last pickup once checked in.


Members with courtesy email notifications will also receive an alert that their card privileges will be expiring three weeks prior to the expiration date. Members will be notified either by mail or email when material is ten (10) days overdue and two (2) more times thereafter. When material is six (6) weeks overdue, members will be billed by mail for material not returned. Delinquent accounts may be forwarded to a collection agency. An additional $20 + HST service charge is levied for each overdue account referred to the collection agency.
