In Our Backyard : photography by Chris Kingdon

Growing up, Chris was always fascinated by the colourful world around him, and by the time he was 12 he already owned his first DSLR camera. The intricate details and organized chaos of the natural world captured his imagination, but the more he learned about the creatures he saw, the more he realized they needed our help. From the smallest of insects to the largest of ecosystems, the natural world is getting sick: its virus; our complacency.

For the last 8 years, Chris has worked to educate people about the natural world as well as do his own part to protect its inhabitants, as part of companies such as Reptilia, Toronto Wildlife Centre and The Guelph Arboretum. He recently completed his Bachelor of Biological Science at the University of Guelph majoring in Wildlife Biology and Conservation, and continues to photograph the stunning biodiversity around him every day. He has exhibited as part of the Richmond Hill and King Studio Tours, won local and international photography competitions and had several solo exhibitions in public spaces.

Chris hopes that his photography can shine a spotlight on the intricate beauty of creatures normally overlooked and teach Canadians to fall in love with their own local backyard wildlife.
